Dear Brothers and Sisters at Living Praise,
LP has truly been a place of ‘Living Praise’ for us. We rejoice in the amazing fellowship we have had here at LP over the last four years. We have been blessed by God for the many LP people who have shared their lives with us. We look back at the love and encouragement from the many people we have got to know in Cell Group, Little Years, Sunday school, the music and PA team, missions team etc…
We are grateful of being at a church where there has been many opportunities to engage people with gospel of Christ Jesus. It has been a great privilege to be at LP and to be part of the many great things that God is doing in growing his church at Bishan. We rejoice in seeing how God’s Word has changed many people.
Our children are not Singaporeans and they often joke that they are ‘aliens’ in Singapore. We remember our young adult bible studies when the word old ‘alien’ was used in the older NIV1984 in 1 Peter to describe our residential status. Mae Leen and I know that as Christians we do not fully belong in the world, no matter where we live.
Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
1 Peter 2:11-12 (NIV 1984)
Our children have made Singapore ‘home’ for the last four years but for now they look forward to their lives in Australia. It is somewhat similar to what Mae Leen and I feel as Christians. This world is our temporary home. We will do the best we can for the benefit of those around us, but we eagerly await Jesus to take us to our eternal home in heaven.
Please pray for us that we will make godly decisions as we change our earthly home. Please pray that we will keep in view the things of God and our heavenly home in our decision making. Pray that we will remember the words of James especially in the coming months.
Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” James 4:13-15 (NIV)
We pray that Our Heavenly Father will continue to grow Jesus’ Kingdom through LPPC. We will continue to pray and remember the work and mission LP is doing in Bishan and Kuo Chuan Primary.
I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:3-6 (NIV)
Our hope and prayer is that God will continue use the ministries at LPPC in growing his eternal kingdom.
Leaving LPPC does not mean we will leave ‘church’. We will return to a church near our home in Sydney. Please pray that we will get to know the new people there, renew old friendships and find ways to mutually encourage the believers we meet. Pray also that we find opportunities to share the Gospel to the many non-Christians around us.
We believe ‘church’ is the fellowship of all who trust and believe in the gospel of Christ Jesus. If any of you do come to Sydney for any reason, please feel welcome to join us at church and hopefully be blessed by getting to know some other Christians you will be spending eternity with.
In Christ Jesus’ Love,
Mun, Mae Leen, Joel, Olivia and Christine (The Phoon family)
