“ I’m grateful to God that in His grace He gave me a chance to know Him and opened my heart to Him, so that I’m now more willing to approach others and start a conversation. I think this must be the biggest change I see in myself!” – by Crystal Wong
My first encounter with Christianity was in secondary school. I remember going with a friend to hear the gospel and having no idea what the Bible was, or who Jesus was, what Christianity was all about, and so on. Because I was young, I found it boring and stopped going after a few times.
Then, during my university days, a friend invited me to a worship service at a church in Cameron Highlands. Hearing everyone sing the hymns, my heart was filled with peace and comfort. It was truly a beautiful and memorable experience.
I had no further encounters with Christianity until after I married and became a stay-at-home mother. A lady would come door-knocking at the flats in my block once a month to spread the gospel. At the time, I had a desire to understand what being a Christian was all about, but I didn’t do anything about it. It happened by chance (that’s what I thought at the time) that Christina Carson invited my children (Emily and Ethan) to LPPC’s Children’s Day outreach programme last year. My kids had an enjoyable time, and through this activity I came to know about Sunday School at LP. I decided to let my children attend Sunday School to learn God’s Word.
I am so thankful for Susan Chin, because she took the initiative to help me understand more about God, and soon I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. Before believing in God, my life was monotonous and dry. I was lonely, with few friends to chat and share experiences with. Since attending LPPC, however, I’ve come to know many friendly and helpful people. Later, I joined Little Years (LP’s group for women and mothers). Slowly, my days became busy, fulfilling and happy. With new friends, I was never again as alone as before.
I am not naturally an outgoing person, so it’s hard for me to befriend people. I’m grateful to God that in His grace He gave me a chance to know Him and opened my heart to Him, so that I’m now more willing to approach others and start a conversation. I think this must be the biggest change I see in myself!
